Halloween candy and Thanksgiving pie, oh my — this year feels like it has been high in calories to begin with! Check out these holiday portion control strategies from the archives.
Weight management is only partially what you eat – it is also how much. Here are three strategies to help with the portion control aspect, courtesy of Cooking Light:
- Pre-portion your treats. Studies have shown those who eat straight out of the main container eat a lot more. Portioning out what you should have on your plate will help you stay on track.
- Downsize…your dishes. Bigger plates and dishes make the correct portion look too small, making it tempting to add more.
- Split the plate. Make half fruits or vegetables, one quarter starch and the remainder protein.
Eating some of the foods you enjoy and maintaining a healthy weight is possible!
