Thinking of buying a fitness tracker to help you improve your fitness while we’re out of the gym? Make sure to take these considerations from the archives into account.

Everywhere you turn, it seems there are endless choices for fitness trackers, right? Here are a few considerations as you try to determine the one for you, courtesy of Popular Science:

  • Where do you want to put it? Most are designed to be worn on your wrist, but some take the form of discs and other shapes you can put in a shoe or zippered pocket.
  • What do you want it to tell you? If you’re looking for simple statistics like steps, you may just need a fitness tracker and not a full-blown smartwatch. If you want more advanced capabilities like heart rate tracking, you may have to spring for one.
  • What do you want out of the hardware? Tradeoffs include battery life, weight, waterproofing and durability.

The choices can be overwhelming, but with a good idea of what is available and what your needs are, you can find the right fitness tracker or smartwatch for your lifestyle.
