Fast Fitness: Diet, Exercise or Both?
A family member and I recently got into a conversation about whether diet is more important than exercise in a weight loss program, and that the Mayo Clinic found diet to be more important. After doing my own digging on this topic, here are some of their key points:
- Net effect of consuming less calories is greater than burning more. For most people, it simply isn’t possible to lose weight effectively through exercise alone.
- However, the best way to lose weight is to do both. The combination of exercise and less calorie consumption gives you the best chance to achieve your goals as quickly as possible.
- Crash dieting doesn’t work. You’re more likely to regain weight quickly if you drastically cut calories for a short period of time.
While it may not be surprising to hear that the key to weight loss is diet and exercise, if you are wondering why you’re not losing enough weight with a robust exercise routine, you may want to take a closer look at your diet.
