Fast Fitness: Marathon 101
The New York City Marathon is right around the corner, and if you’ve gotten pretty good at running, you might have had the fleeting thought about making running a marathon one of your fitness goals. While that is an admirable goal, like anything else, it’s good to know what you’re getting yourself into before diving in. Here are some of the top things you need to consider beyond the training before making that commitment, courtesy of Health.com:
- Fees: These can run up to $300 for the entry fee, plus up to $300 for each qualifying race to be accepted into the marathon
- Fuel: Having the right training fuel, such as gels and energy bars, is essential when you’re out on the trail or roads for so much time. You could easily drop $150 on this
- Gear: For 5K training, your normal gym clothes can suffice. For the mileage you’re going to put in for marathon training, you need socks that prevent blisters and undergarments that don’t cause chafing. This could cost more than $350
Training for a marathon is more than just logging miles – for many, it is a lifetime bucket list item. And like many of those bucket list items, it’s going to cost a bit of money. Now your credit card will be as prepared as your feet!
