Fruit Roll Ups Have a Consumer Warning

After going viral on TikTok earlier this month, the company that makes Fruit Roll-Ups is warning consumers not to consume the plastic lining in the product. In March, a TikTok trend emerged in which users wrapped ice cream in Fruit Roll-Ups and froze the combination to create a sandwich-style snack.

The trend then evolved into just freezing Fruit Roll-Ups without unrolling them and eating the product whole. TikTok influencers have been claiming that once a Fruit Roll-Up is frozen, it is okay to eat the plastic wrapper.   There is a thin layer of plastic inside the roll though that's intended to be removed when it's unrolled, period end of story, frozen or not!

I can not believe that the Fruit Roll-Ups higher ups had to get in on the chat.  They issued the warning after several TikTok users claimed the wrapper is edible when the roll-ups are frozen.  A General Mills spokesperson said, "While consumers can enjoy Fruit Roll-Ups in many fun ways, including frozen, they should always remove the plastic wrap before freezing or consuming the product.”  The official Fruit Roll-Ups TikTok account reads: "Legal is making me clarify that you should not attempt to eat plastic #FruitRollup."

I have been guilty of eating something not made for consumption by either accident or laziness, but I would never take to social media and tell everyone that it is safe for everyone else to consume it!  Once again, let us not believe everything we see on TikTok.  Somehow these influencers have such a way to convince us of anything.
