WBALTV.com says a rice shortage is occurring because of a partial ban on rice exports by India which is the world’s largest exporter of rice by far. Seventy percent of rice comes from India. This has cut global supplies by a fifth. Rice prices are surging. El Nino has also contributed to the scarcity of rice and price increases.
You may be wondering why I sounded so concerned about this rice shortage on the air this morning when I was talking about this with Joel. Well, let me tell you about rice – the magical little grains that fill my heart and my belly with joy! I mean, come on, is there anything rice can’t do? It’s like the ultimate team player in the food world. Need a side dish? Rice! Feeling fancy and craving sushi? Rice to the rescue! Want a comforting bowl of warmth? Rice again, my friend!
And the variety! It’s like a rice rainbow out there – long-grain, short-grain, basmati, jasmine – each one with its own personality. It’s like a rice party where everyone’s invited, and they’re all just a little different, but they get along so well.
And don’t get me started on how rice is the ultimate sauce sponge. You’ve got that delicious curry or that amazing stir-fry sauce? Rice is like, “I gotchu, fam!” It soaks up all those flavors like a champ, turning every meal into a flavor explosion.
Honestly, if I had a rice-themed superhero persona, I’d be the Rice Renegade, fighting off hunger and blandness one tasty grain at a time. So here’s to rice – the real MVP of my plate and the unsung hero of countless meals. May your grains be fluffy, your flavors be bold, and your adventures in the world of cuisine be endless! 🍚❤️

Fried dishes that appear excessively greasy or have a rancid smell should raise a red flag, suggesting that they may not be the best option on the menu.

It may also be wise to be cautious about certain buffet offerings. While buffets offer a variety of choices, the food can remain exposed to varying temperatures for extended periods, increasing the risk of contamination. Opting for freshly prepared dishes or ordering from the menu may be a safer alternative.
Dishes with unidentifiable ingredients or unusually low prices could raise concerns about their quality or sourcing. It doesn’t hurt to ask about unfamiliar ingredients and to be wary of menu items that seem too good to be true.
By keeping an eye out for certain dishes, we can make choices that put our health first without sacrificing any enjoyment. But it’s not just on us to be careful. Restaurants need to do their part too. And keep in mind that most restaurants work hard at keeping up top-notch hygiene and food safety.
