McDonald’s May Be Ditching All Types Of Straws For Good
I like going to a fast food place and drinking my non nutritious drinks through a straw, it somehow seems tastier that way. It appears that I will no longer be able to be sipping through a straw at McDonald’s soon. McDonald’s will become completely strawless in the near future to those of us who like cold drinks such as soda beverages. According to their Facebook post, McDonald’s announced that cold beverages would come with sippy lids as part of its movement towards a greener planet.
The fast-food chain is looking to do away with plastic straws in favor of strawless lids that don’t require any straw at all. The new lids are being tested in certain markets and feature a pullback tab that promotes easy sipping and no spillage. The company talked about the lids saying they “help optimize our packaging and eliminate the use of small plastics.” They do however say that if you are drinking something thick such as a chocolate milkshake, straws will still be available for purchase if you order Shakes, Iced Latte and Frappes. Yes, it looks like free straws will also soon become a thing of the past.
If you are a parent who orders your kids Happy Meals you may have noticed that McDonald’s is already in the process of ditching plastic toys in Happy Meals for those made of more renewable materials. Maybe your kids’ toys in the Happy Meals will be made of cardboard by 2025. McDonald’s is saying by the end of 2025, all of its toys will be made from recycled plastic, plant-based plastic, certified sustainable fiber, or a mix of those material. I think it is a great idea that Happy Meals are using renewable materials for their Happy Meals because after the kids play with these toys for about two weeks, let’s face it, they usually get bored with them and they end up in the garbage.
