Researchers Develop Self Cleaning Surfaces
I spend a lot of time weekdays dusting and vacuuming. We have four dogs, so as you can imagine, daily cleaning is a necessity in our house. Vacuuming my floors, carpets and couches is where you find me in the later part of the afternoon. I was happy to read that maybe our daily chores will soon be minimized thanks to scientists who are promising to make our lives easier. Scientists have been able to create countertops where they are at such a slight angle we cannot see the angle with the naked eye. By having a countertop on a slight angle, the dust simply rolls off the countertop and clumps onto other particles of dust, so basically, you will have a big dust ball on the floor.
According to the lead study author Chih-Hao Chang, an associate professor in the Cockrell School of Engineering’s Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, in a university release ” Particulates aren’t able to stick to the surface, so they come off using just the force of gravity.”
Study Finds says researchers are even looking at a way for us to have self cleaning windows. Imagine never having to do spring cleaning on your windows ever! I have no idea how much this technology will cost us, but at least one day we will not have to worry about falling out our bedroom window while cleaning it.
