2009 Debbie vs. 2019 Debbie… Something Changed!
You know that new Ariana Grande song? “Thank u, next”? That’s kind of what I hear in my head when I see my first Facebook profile pic from more than 10 years ago. Who WAS I back then?? I had just left a previous gig and started my new job here at Magic on the air, spending the workday with you. I wasn’t sure what exactly was going to happen, and the stress was definitely getting to me. Looking back, I wasn’t taking care of myself. I certainly wasn’t exercising, and I probably was eating a ton of things I shouldn’t be every single day.
Somewhere between then and now, a lot changed. Now, I’m the Program Director of Magic, on top of spending 5 hours on the air with you every day. It sounds kinda cheesy, but I really do have a new outlook on life… I finally woke up one day, realized I wasn’t happy with myself and what I was doing and fortunately looked to my hubby, Gerard, some close friends and music, of course, for some extra motivation.
You saw Brett Radler’s post the other day about the 10-year transformation he underwent. Not for nothing, but he was a real inspiration for me to get my act together. Seeing all of his hard work and how much happier and healthier he was made me stop, wake up and smell the coffee—and maybe the extra donuts I should have passed on…
Now, we still keep each other motivated, sometimes by comparing how many steps we’ve walked in a day or just calling to chat on the phone while we’re out walking to make the time go by quicker! (When we’re not talking, you know I’ll be listening to my fave music from the Foo Fighters and some of the artists we’ve had on my On the Verge segment!)
Now, I try to walk or run and do some form of exercise every morning, and I still eat foods I like, but just more in moderation. I’m still the rock chick cat mom that I always was—just a healthier one with a better outlook on life.
Sometimes, it’s a lot of little things that add up to make a big difference. You don’t have to make a huge transformation happen overnight. But looking back over 10 years, it’s amazing how much can change. Hopefully for you, it’s for the better, too!
