Best Life Magazine says people are once again rubbing Burt’s Bees (often menthol or peppermint flavored) lip balm on their eyelids as part of the Tik Tok challenge called Beezin’. People say rubbing the balm on their eyelids intensifies the feeling of being under the influence, to induce or heighten the sensation of being drunk or high, or create a state or perceived state of enhanced alertness.
Aside from the feeling of getting high, here is another good reason that you should make sure your teens know not to take part in this TikTok challenge, a representative for Burt’s Bees told Fox News Digital that while the product may be 100 percent natural, ‘that doesn’t mean it can go on eyes’. On a more serious level, it may cause infections and ulcers of the eye that can be difficult to treat and lead to permanent vision loss.
Health experts, like Dr Olivia Killeen, are warning against the resurgent trend because it can lead to vision loss and infections. “Beezin’ can cause chemical irritation to the eyelids themselves, resulting in redness, swelling, and inflammation. She also notes that it’s easy for products to accidentally get into the eyes themselves. So, Beezin’ can end up causing tearing, redness, and painful burns to the surface of the eyes. In severe instances, it could lead to scarring or vision loss.”
