BUFFALO, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 3: Joey Chestnut the number one ranked competitive eater in the world takes part in the National Chicken Wing Eating Contest on September 3, 2023 at Highmark Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York. The festival, now in its 22nd year, averages more than 45,000 attendees from all 50 states and 44 countries. It has served up more than 5.7 million chicken wings and raised more than $440,000 for local charities.
Riverfest is returning to Trenton Thunder Ballpark once again this year. The festival happens this Saturday, September 23rd from 12 to 5 P.M.
For the past eight years the Ballpark in Trenton, New Jersey has hosted Case’s Pork Roll Eating Championship. It’s an awesome day for families to play games, listen to live music from local bands, and enjoy delicious seasonal craft beers, and some tasty dishes including Case’s Pork Roll which was founded in Trenton.
There will also be some serious competitive eaters. The day’s finale will be the Ninth Annual Trenton Thunder World Famous Case’s Pork Roll Eating Championship.
Our old friend and #1 eating champ Joey Chestnut is seeking the Pork Roll Eating Champion title this year against Geoffrey Esper. Esper is the current Pork Roll Eating Champion and the #2-ranked competitive eater in the world. Several other top-ranked eaters will be there to attempt victory as well.
At the event last year, Esper ate 44 Case’s Pork Roll Sandwiches in 10 minutes for the win. He also currently holds 20 World Records. Chestnut holds the World Record for eating 61.5 Case’s Pork Roll Sandwiches in 10 minutes in 2019.
“World Champion Eaters will convene in Trenton for an epic competition,” said George Shea, chairman of Major League Eating. “Esper will have to fight to top Chestnut’s World Record of 61.5 Case’s Pork Roll Sandwiches.”
In an interview with Joel and Maryann, Joey Chestnut said he’s always hungry. “I’m always holding back my appetite, and then when I’m on stage I can finally let go.”
Joey also shared his training regimen. He said, “I’m kind of embarrassed how much time I put into it. I do throat exercises, jaw exercises, and weird burping exercises to make sure I can get all the muscles working really quickly and in unison. I practice and I videotape my practices to try and figure out what muscles I need to work on. So I put a lot of thought into it and I’m happy it paid off.”

Places with the Best Apple Cider in the U.S.
Apple cider season is here. There’s just something special about having apple cider in the fall. You can have it any season, but it just tastes better in the fall. What’s more, if it’s chilly out, it’s extra delicious to have hot apple cider with a dash of cinnamon. So, what are some spots with the best apple cider in the U.S.?
Before we get to today’s apple cider, let’s look at some of the interesting history of apple cider. According to Washington State University, the very “first recorded references to cider date back to Roman times,” and, “in 55 BCE Julius Caesar found the Celtic Britons fermenting cider from native crabapples. The people of northern Spain were making sidra before the birth of Christ.” That’s so wild to think about.
Moreover, according to SmithsonianMag.com, “Evidence of apple trees growing along the banks to the Nile River can be found dating back to about 1300 B.C., but there’s no evidence that ancient Egyptians ever used them for cider. However, considering how much the Egyptians enjoyed beer (and that they were one of the first cultures to brew it), they did have some notion of the joys of fermenting alcoholic beverages.”
In other words, apple cider dates back a long, long time. In fact, apples are as old as time, really. Remember the Biblical story where Eve at the apple? There you have it. Even though apples are very ancient, the way that we eat them today is not. There are so many different ways to enjoy apples and apple cider in the fall. With that in mind, let’s get into the best apple cider in the U.S. What’s your favorite spot to get local apple cider? Reach out to us on social media and give us your picks.
