New Jersey’s Favorite Shark During Shark Week
Another Shark Week has come and gone, but the interest in sharks never goes away. Personally, my wife and I love Shark Week and everything about sharks. So much so that we vacationed at the Jersey Shore for Shark Week.
Shark Week Shark Bracelets
Needless to say, we don’t like shark attacks because someone gets hurt or worse, but the mystique and lure of sharks are fascinating. When we were kids they sold shark bracelets, and they still do. I’m not talking about the magnetic bracelets they claim deter sharks. This is a braided string bracelet (shown below) that supposedly keeps sharks away.
While on vacation last week (during shark week) there was always something shark-related on at least one screen in our shore house. We had our favorite movie “Jaws” on a loop throughout our trip.
New Jersey’s Favorite Shark
We just can’t learn enough about these 450 million-year-old fish, especially during shark week. It seems many of us in New Jersey are in the same boat (and may need a bigger one). Specifically, New Jersey residents are most interested in the Sand Tiger Shark.
We’re not alone because a new study by BetMGM says that interest in sharks across seventeen different species spikes significantly every year during Shark Week.
The top five sharks that see the most significant boost in interest thanks to the added attention from Shark Week are the Blue Shark followed by the Bull Shark, then our favorite, the Great White. The Sand Tiger Shark and Mako Shark round out the top five. Each of these types of sharks see an increase in interest of about two hundred and fifty percent this time of year.
You may remember that it was a Tiger Shark that was caught in “Jaws” which was thought to be the shark that was terrorizing Amity Island in the movie.
Other less popular sharks, according to the survey, which don’t attract as much attention are the Whale Shark, Goblin Shark, Leopard Shark, Hammerhead Shark, and Lemon Shark.
