Top 5 Most Popular Side Hustles in New Jersey
Side hustles are very popular in New Jersey. I know I’ve had many in my lifetime. I was a mobile DJ for many years, it seemed to mesh well with my radio job. If you’re not familiar with what a side hustle is, it’s simply a part-time job that people have to bring in extra money to supplement the income from their full-time job.
5 Popular New Jersey Side Hustles
A new study by Freedom Bound Business examined which side hustles or part-time jobs New Jerseyans are most interested in.
Number one on the list is “podcasting.” This makes sense because it’s not difficult to do. A quick Google search shows that Shutterstock says there are six things you’ll need to get started as a Podcaster. This includes a strategy or plan and recording equipment.
I do a medical podcast on our sister station Fox Sports Radio New Jersey. This isn’t a side hustle, it’s part of my job at Magic 98.3, but “with dedication and creativity, a podcast can not only become a fulfilling hobby but also a source of income through sponsorships, advertisements, and donations.”
The second most popular of the side hustles in the Garden State is “affiliate marketing.” I wasn’t familiar with the term’s exact meaning, but learned that affiliate marketers “earn commissions by promoting other people’s or companies’ products. For example, I would choose a product that I believe in and I promote it in a blog, social media, or maybe an email newsletter.
It’s similar to being a social media influencer which is number four on this list. To have affiliate marketing as a successful side hustle you need to know your audience and promote something that they would be interested in. If you think this may be something that would work for you, you can search, “how to start affiliate marketing” to learn more.
The third most popular of side hustles in New Jersey is “drop shipping.” This is another term I was familiar with, but had to investigate further to fully understand how it works. In a nutshell, it’s selling products that you don’t have in stock or your inventory. You advertise your “widget” and then when someone places an order you send it to them directly from your supplier for less than what your buyer pays.
It seems rather simple, but you do need to manage the online store, handle the marketing, and deal with all customer service.
As I mentioned earlier, “social media influencer” is number four with “investing” at number five.
Jonathan Pinedo of Freedom Bound Business told me, “With the ever-evolving job market, many are seeking additional sources of income and greater flexibility in their careers. Side hustles offer the perfect solution, allowing people to pursue their passions, explore new opportunities, and supplement their primary income.”
