It’s a common problem if you’re a New Jersey dog owner, your dog smells after you bathe them.  My conversation with dog groomer Jennie Smith helps give the reason for this dog owner smelly question. Google Trends data has revealed that dog owner searches for "why does my dog smell so bad after a bath" exploded 9900% throughout New Jersey right when the heat of summer kicked in.

The research was conducted by the Certified Master Groomer brand, Dog's Own Grooming. It revealed that searches for the answer jumped to a significantly higher average volume than normal. Researchers search data analysis says that it’s an unprecedented increase.

Dog Owner Question Answered by Master Groomer

Jennie Smith, owner and founder of Dog's Own Grooming said, “There's a secret that many dog owners overlook, the importance of conditioners. Most people are familiar with the concept of using conditioner for long hair, but the real secret lies in its use for the skin.”

Jennie shared, “All animals produce oils in their skin, just like humans do. This oil acts as a barrier and protects the dogs. When you use a conditioner, you put back some of these oils lost during the cleaning process.  So when you wash your pet at home, make sure you add conditioner to your routine. You will notice your dog will not smell like a dog for longer, and their skin and coat will become healthier and reduce shedding”.

Jennie Smith is a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and the owner of Dog’s Own Grooming, with a career spanning since 1978. Jennie is well known for her expertise in dog grooming, has won several grooming competitions, and has been a celebrated speaker at national conventions.

However, Jennie is not just a groomer. As a former Vet Tech, she is constantly sharing her knowledge as an instructor in grooming and Animal CPR. I spent some time with Jennie to help prepare New Jersey dog owners on how to care for their dogs in the summer. She answers all the questions that a dog owner may wonder about their dog in Summer.
