An 85 Year Old South Brunswick Man Saves Neighbors From House Fire
One reason you should stay in shape no matter how old you are is because you never know when you may need to run and save someone’s life, even at the age of 85. An 85 year-old South Brunswick, New Jersey man saved his sleeping neighbors from a house fire.
According to ABC, Santo Livio was wide awake and looking out of his window at 5:30 a.m. Since he was used to waking up early for work, Santo Livio went outside to start his day and noticed haze coming from a nearby home. He noticed puffs of smoke over the family’s garage and at first thought it might be early morning fog. Then he realized this was not fog he was seeing. He sprung into action and ran towards the burning house. As he went towards the street, he was met with an unidentified female jogger. The two of them ran into action by running to the neighbor’s home and banged on the front door and windows of the home until the family was awake. The mom was working an overnight shift while the dad and four children were in the burning home.
Three fire departments soon responded and extinguished the fire in 20 minutes. It took 50 firefighters from these three township departments to help.
Santo’s swift actions saved the life of a father and his four children. He says, “I hope that what I did for somebody, they would do the same for me.”
