Thanks to All Who Donated During Our Radiothon This Morning

On behalf of everyone here at Magic 98.3, and all of us who work for Beasley Media Group here in New Jersey and across the country including our co-workers in Florida, thank you.

Thank you for your participation in our company-wide radiothon to help raise funds to support the Red Cross Disaster Relief, and everyone working tirelessly to aid those who have been affected by Hurricane Ian. Your donations are used to provide hot meals, water, snacks, and other necessities in the immediate aftermath. The Red Cross will continue its efforts in the coming days and weeks to the neighborhoods affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian.

Thank you for your much-needed gift, and for helping aid the communities that were hit the hardest during the storm. As we shared this morning, the Red Cross has many well-trained disaster workers already in the affected areas, and many more are on their way to help the thousands of evacuees. The Red Cross has sent hundreds of blood products to be certain enough blood is available for all of the patients in the affected areas.

We heard from many of our Central Jersey listeners who shared stories about their family and friends in Florida who were affected. We also discussed how we have had similar experiences here in New Jersey including our experience with Hurricane Sandy. One caller said that she donated because she appreciated all of the assistance her family received when her house was flooded almost ten years to the day when Hurricane Sandy came ashore in New Jersey.

Hurricane Ian: What New Jersey Should Expect This Weekend

Hurricane Ian is currently traveling up the east coast, as you know if you’ve been following the news. New Jersey is not predicted to have weather conditions mirroring Florida or the Carolinas, but remnants of the re-formed Hurricane Ian will lead to a “prolonged period of unsettled weather” in New Jersey this weekend.

Per NJ Advance Media, Hurricane Ian “could drop as much as 4 inches of rain along the Jersey Shore and generate strong gusty winds at times,” forecasters say.

“Ian remains a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, but its forward speed has increased slightly to 14 mph. Landfall is expected early this afternoon between Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,” per CNN.

The last time New Jersey experienced a hurricane was back in 2020. During Hurricane Isaias, more than 300,000 New Jersey residents lost power. The National Weather Service had confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Cape May County and in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island in Ocean County, per ABC7.

We’ve broken down what weather conditions New Jersey are likely to see in the coming days. Take a look below at how Hurricane Ian will be affecting New Jersey this weekend:

  • Friday Night (Sept. 30)

    The heaviest of the rain is likely to fall from late Friday night until Saturday afternoon. Dry conditions are expected throughout the evening.

    North New Jersey is expected to have a high of 64F and a low of 53F. There is a 90% chance of rainfall around a quarter of an inch weaning into the early morning Saturday (Oct. 1).

    South Jersey will be cloudy with isolated thunderstorms with wind gusting up to 24 mph.

  • Saturday (Oct. 1)

    The next round of rain rolls through Saturday night into Sunday morning.

    North Jersey: Rain will start early with showers throughout the afternoon. High of 57F and wind gust up to 20 mph.

    South Jersey: Continues with isolated thunderstorms. A high of 63F with wind gusting 30 MPH. The chance of precipitation is around 90%.

  • Sunday (Oct. 2)

    Coastal areas could get hit with more rain on Sunday afternoon with showers lingering until Sunday night.

    North Jersey: Rain showers at times with a 50% chance of precipitation. High of 60F.

    South Jersey: Mostly cloudy with a 60% chance of precipitation. Wind gusts up to 29 mph.

    There’s a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday, though both days should generally be partly sunny with highs in the low 60s.
