5 Football Party Snacks Served for the First Game of the Season

Just like each and every other football fan in New Jersey, we had our first football party of the season this past weekend. Other than the game, which should be the most important thing about the party, my wife and many of our guests believe the food served can make or break the party. I think they’re right, to a point. You’ve got to have good food on the menu at a football party, but if your team loses, nothing tastes good. So, to make sure we have the proper snacks for the football party, we did some searching and used an article by VegasInsider.com that lists America’s and, more importantly, New Jersey’s favorite snack or dish for a tailgate or football party. We started with the chip and dips which is number six on the list of most popular snacks for football viewing. Do we serve potato chips, Doritos, and pretzels? We settled on some “Restaurant Style” tortilla chips and nachos, separately listed at number two along with my favorite, thin pretzel crisps, perfect for dipping, and some peanuts. When it came to dips we decided on three delicious choices. The first was the very popular spinach artichoke, and then created some guacamole, with the third being a store-bought French Onion. Top Dishes for a Football Party So, what about the main dishes? The first thought was chicken wings (5th on the list), you can’t invite friends to a football party without wings. Kathleen has a couple of “secret recipes” which are always delicious, buffalo and honey barbeque. We always intentionally burn a few of the honey barbeque, my absolute favorite. Number one on the list for football party dishes is sliders, but what kind should we make? Hawaiian rolls are a must, but should we go with burgers, chicken, vegetable, or pork? After several minutes of consideration, we made our decision. A pork loin in the crock pot for shredded pork sliders with cole slaw and a pickle. Another beloved family recipe is Kathleen's homemade meatballs, she makes a giant pot with homemade sauce and there are never any leftovers. Meatballs are third on the list of the top football party snacks. Since ribs are fourth on the list, we wrapped a bunch in foil and cooked them on the grill. Then we covered them with a store-bought barbeque sauce and added them to our football party buffet. Other snacks and dishes served from the list included popcorn, hot dogs, and pizza. Fortunately, we got the win on both the field and on the menu. Check out the full list of the most popular football party snacks in America here.
