Veterans Day: Ways to Support Veterans Year Round [Interview]
With Veteran’s Day upon us, as a nation, it’s a time we thank and appreciate our veterans, but this appreciation should be shown all the time. Our nation’s service members and veterans make unimaginable sacrifices. While recognizing their service and saying thank you is important on days like Veteran’s Day, it is our responsibility to support our nation’s military heroes year-round.
Joel and Maryann spoke with the CEO of Fisher House Foundation, Ken Fisher, who discusses the importance of honoring and supporting our military this Veterans Day and beyond. Fisher House Foundation is best known for its comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world and have private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a dining room, and a living room. Ken mentions, “by the end of 2023 we will have built 100 Fisher Houses…but our job is by no means done.” Ken continues, “The sacrifices and burdens are ongoing, and these families are going through, in so many cases, long deployments where the families aren’t home, they have no idea what’s going on with their family member.”
