Yesterday’s incident involving a horse galloping down Interstate 95 in Philadelphia was definitely a bizarre incident that you do not see every day, right?  I see a lot of horse trailers traveling on the roadways, but never a loose horse!  This horse definitely got his steps in.  The unpredictability of farm animals and the danger they can face when they stray from their enclosures is something pet owners worry about.

I was headed to the grocery store one early evening and noticed my neighbor’s goats found their way out while she was away.  I rang her doorbell and she guided me on how to corral them together using a long stick.  Luckily, I was able to get them back in their fenced-in area and they were safe.   While many are judging the owner on how this could possibly happen, let me just say, this horse’s escapades can happen to any animal.

Animals are smart and can slip past barriers, even in urban environments. The sight of a horse on a bustling highway like I-95 is certainly out of the ordinary, as Angelo Palmer, a school bus driver, experienced firsthand.

According to ABC News Angelo Palmer had a quick response to capture the event on video while making sure the horse and other drivers were safe.  I tend to panic when I see unusual circumstances, but Angelo demonstrated the importance of remaining calm and alert in these types of situations.

Despite the initial surprise and disruption to traffic, the timing of the incident before the morning rush probably prevented any major accidents.

With help from police and concerned passersby to corral the horse and reunite it with its owner shows how a quick response was needed when dealing with this unexpected situation. The fact that the horse was safely returned to its caretakers and is expected to recover without major harm, brings a smile and a sense of relief. This shows how the quick actions of everyday people on their way to work can pull over and help and support humans and animals in serious situations.
