There are thousands of power outages reported every year in New Jersey and throughout the United States, but this has got to be a first. An unfortunate and comical series of events left a chunk of Sayreville, New Jersey powerless for hours. The reason for it is something that most likely has never caused a power outage before, a fish and a bird. Utility officials from Jersey Central Power and Light were dumbfounded when they found that a bird had dropped fish on one of their transformers. The unusual bird dropping ignited an explosive outage this past weekend.
Sayreville Police Department officials said that the fish’s landing could not have been more precise, and it obliterated the transformer. They commemorated the fish, which they affectionately named “Gilligan” on their Facebook page with a whimsical sketch and a cheeky eulogy that read:
“Today’s power outage was a major inconvenience for so many of our residents. Please let us not forget the victim in this senseless death. Gilligan was a hard-working family man. He was a father to thousands of children. The suspect was last seen flying South. If you see him do not try to apprehend him. Although he isn’t believed to be armed he may still be very dangerous. If you have any information in this case please contact Det. John Silver who handles all of our fish cases.”
Matt T. commented on the Facebook page claiming to know the bird, “This bird is located on majors pond. Seen him there plenty of times and watched him grab a fish out of the water and eat it up in a tree. Pretty awesome! He is actually a bald eagle. They are also in river road and have nests in the electrical towers.”
M. Erdek appreciated the Police Department’s humor saying, “I’m glad we have a comedian back on this page… Keep them coming.”
Power has since been restored.
Study Finds Top 5 Comedy Movies That Help Us Relieve Stress
Beyond just the enjoyment and laughter of it, watching a funny movie has scientifically proven benefits, according to Study Finds. Researchers from the University of Basel in Switzerland found that laughter and smiling can help relieve daily stress, and help us to cope with life’s challenges, problems, and bad luck. Although there’s no direct correlation between the intensity of laughter and stress relief, scientists concluded that humor is a huge factor in helping us deal with stressful situations in everyday life.
A touch of humor can also enhance learning, as revealed by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania. They discovered that young adults are more likely to remember newscast information when delivered with a humorous approach. Humor-infused news or serious content allows kids to absorb and retain crucial information effectively. It just makes sense that we would remember something that made us laugh.
The popularity of “funny news shows” like The Daily Show lies in their use of dark humor to cover serious topics, which, according to research from the University of Vienna in Austria, has its benefits. Fans of dark humor, or black humor, tend to exhibit higher intelligence levels compared to those who don’t appreciate it. The ability to comprehend dark humor reflects a connection between information processing and cognitive abilities.
With that, here are the top 5 funny movies, according to Study Finds research, which consisted of consulting movie critics and pop culture websites.
