McDonald’s Charging For Extra Sauce
Would you ask for sauce if you had to pay for it at a fast food restaurant? It appears more and more McDonald’s chains are now charging for various sauces. Charging customers for sauces is nothing new. Many chains have been asking customers to pay for extra packets of ketchup, mayonnaise and barbecue sauce for years now. A significant proportion of McDonald’s restaurants are owned by franchisees who set their own prices. Some charge for extra sauces if they are not part of a meal option. Meal options that come with sauces include Chicken McNuggets, Chicken Selects, and some promotional side offerings like my favorite, onion rings.
It came as a surprise to me to hear that we have been considered “lucky” to dine at a McDonald’s restaurant which allows you to have sauces on the house. Some McDonald’s are charging if you request utensils.
With social media, today we can express how we feel about certain things that we agree or disagree with as seen in this short clip that was captured by Samantha Butler (@butler458) as she filmed a McDonald’s employee taping a price for sauces. The video received well over 9 million views since it was posted. Many viewers were not happy by this new policy since McDonald’s is notorious for forgetting to put dipping sauces in the bag.
