Brain Implant Could Allow Paralyzed People To Write With Their Minds
An amazing new technology could allow people who are paralyzed to write – using their minds. A special brain implant detects “attempted handwriting movements” by having the subject imagine they were writing normally with a pen and paper. The implant then converts those brain signals into actual text on a computer screen. Researchers say the test subject was able to ‘write’ about 18 words per minute – only a bit slower than the average person can type on a smartphone. The technology is still in early development, but could one day help people who have been partly paralyzed by spinal injuries or strokes.
