A Vacation Filled with Friends, Drinks and Foo’s!
Hey, it’s Debbie, and in case you were wondering where I was last week, I was on a vacation filled with some great friends, drinks and Foo’s! I love hanging around the house and pool with my hubby Gerard and my two “fur kids,” Cornell and Dolly, but I always make sure to spice things up with a few concerts!
They say that seeing a live show at least twice a month will help you live another 9 years, and at the rate I’m going, I can probably add another 18! Seeing my fave bands always brings me back to my younger years when I wanted to work in radio because I thought I’d get to meet my fave artists.
It all started back when I was 12 years old – I won a radio contest for a New Year’s Eve phone call from my favorite member of KISS, Ace Frehley. After asking him questions about his onstage persona, guitars and telling him I dressed as him for Halloween, he asked how old I was. When he found out I was 12, he said, “For someone so young, you asked some good questions and should think about doing something involving music or radio someday.” That was all I needed to hear!
Fast forward a few years, and now you know why I’m a rock chick at heart who loves going to concerts! The highlight had to have been seeing the Foo Fighters live… three times!
First was at Jones Beach on July 14, and then I also got to see them at MSG in NYC on the 15th and 16th! While I still have yet to meet Dave Grohl (a lifelong dream!), a huge highlight was getting invited backstage on the 15th and bringing home a set list from the show!
Dave Grohl is one of my fave performers of all time, so you can imagine how stoked I was to be able to see him jam live on stage three times in four days. It never gets old watching him walk out on stage and shout, “ARE YOU READY??” to the crowd; I get chills just thinking about it. If I could go to a concert every day, I would!
The week was capped off by a belated bday party at my house with some of my closest friends – and some of your fave air personalities from Magic! You guessed it – some of the gifts (even the cake!) were Foo Fighters-themed.
It was a great vacation, but what I missed most was being on the air with YOU, getting you through your workday with a ton of great music. Thanks for letting me do what I love every day – it feels great to be back!
