TikTok Trend Could Help Sleep-Deprived Get Much-Needed Rest
American actress Marilyn Monroe (1926 - 1962), photographed asleep, in Beverly Hills, California, at the end of June 1962.
We are all sleep-deprived at one time or another and we know what it feels like to have that feeling of exhaustion. There are insomniacs, like my mother, who like many elderly people, hardly ever sleeps. She’s tried many things like melatonin and the old warm milk trick, but to no avail.
Sleep-Deprived in America
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 3 people in the country are sleep-deprived. Because of this most people like my mom are looking for something or anything they can do to get some good sleep. There’s a new hack that may help the sleep-deprived.
Sleep-Deprived Saved by TikTok
Callie Galey is a TikTok user who recently posted a unique sleep-deprived saving amazing hack to help us with our sleep issue. You just open up your dresser drawer and grab something that just about all of us already have, a sweatshirt.
Callie claims in her viral video that her technique gives her “the best sleep” of her life. She says that you take the sweatshirt wrap it around your head and cover your eyes. Then you cover your chin with the sleeves.
You’re going to look a little silly, but she says that it works every time. Many seem to agree because she has almost two and a half million likes and twenty-three thousand shares.
Sleep-Deprived Expert Opinion
According to a recent interview by Bustle, board-certified physician Dr. Jessica Andrade says it’s like swaddling. We do it to make babies feel more comfortable and it also works on adults. She says it creates a cocoon effect like a weighted blanket, helps you relax, and improves sleep quality.
Sleep expert Dr. Shelby Harris says, “Just keep a few things in mind, make sure it’s not too tight, doesn’t make you too hot, and doesn’t mess with your breathing.”
There’s no risk and no cost so it’s certainly worth a try. Callie says, “It works wonders.”
Sweet dreams!
