Beware Of An Easy-Bake Oven Nightmare
When I was younger I loved playing with my Easy-Bake Oven. It was one of my favorite toys growing up because it made me feel so grown up. I remember asking my mom to give me flour, sugar, water and food coloring. I would then spend hours experimenting with different recipes and creating what I thought was a culinary masterpiece! There was something so memorable about watching those itty, bitty cakes and cookies bake with just a simple light bulb. I really was excited to share my treats with my family members. My siblings liked my treats too. This simple Hasbro toy left a lasting memory of me licking the bowl and spatula when I was done.
Today, families are still making memories with the Easy-Bake Oven. Unfortunately this one family did not have such a good experience. There is a TikTok video that’s been getting a lot of attention since this weekend. It is posted by a user named Stephanie, also known as steph_murphy. In her video she is talking about her unfortunate experience her family had with an Easy-Bake Oven.
Stephanie explains how she, her husband Ryan, and their 8-year-old daughter Nora all ended up in the ER after using this Easy-Bake Oven over the weekend. I have to say a part of me does not fully believe that their unfortunate trip to the ER is due to the Easy-Bake Oven but I feel I need to share her story.
@steph_murphy My husband, 8 year old daughter and myself all got admitted to the ER on saturday because of an Easy Bake Oven. Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, chills, and nauseau. Nothing on Google showed anything similar, so was this a one off or have there been others? It was scary that we all got affected so quickly.

According to People, the three of them were excited to try this new oven out. Ryan and Nora got the oven all set up to make a two-layer red velvet cake. But as soon as they plugged it in, Nora smelled something off. Ryan thought the smell was just the plastic from the oven. It seems like everything new has a smell of plastic today. But, Ryan had lost his sense of taste and smell for three years because of COVID. Should Stephanie listen to a guy who has lost his ability to smell?
While the cake was baking, the three of them were in the living room playing a game. When they went to check on the cake, it was not cooked fully through. They decided they would not leave it in the oven for additional time and decided not eat a partially cooked cake. So, they unplugged the oven they threw the cake away.
After that Nora started complaining of chest pains, and it had only been like 45 minutes since they plugged in the oven. Stephanie was like, “Let’s just keep an eye on her,” but when Nora said she was having trouble breathing, so her parents rushed her to the ER. Ryan started having breathing problems too on the way there. The doctors initially thought it was carbon monoxide poisoning because everyone’s symptoms happened so fast. But the tests came back negative.
