Warning: Do Not Use Rice to Dry Out Your Phone
A mobile phone passcode security screen is seen in this photo illustration. Apple is warning users against using rice to dry iPhones.
I’ve done it on more than one occasion, we all have. You drop your cell phone in the toilet, a puddle, or maybe the Raritan River. I once dropped my cell phone in a baby pool as I was filling it for my neighbor’s dogs. After retrieving it as quickly as possible I screamed every expletive I could think of. At least it gave me something to share with the priest at my next confession.
Rice is Nice
If you’ve ever dropped your cell phone in water, then you’ve probably done what I did, buried it in a bag of dry rice. It works, the process sucks up the excess water and moisture to get you back to your much-needed social media time.
Charging Issues
The newer phones can handle a dip better than the older ones, but the opening for the charging plug is where the water flows. It only takes a second or two to make your phone unchargeable.
Warning from Apple
Apple support is warning all iPhone owners to stop using rice to dry out their devices. They shared that it could “allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone.”
They also recommend you not use heat, compressed air, a cotton swab, or a paper towel to attempt to dry out the port.
New and Improved Solution
The first thing they tell you to do is, “Tap your iPhone gently against your hand with the connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow.”
Moisture Warning
In an emergency, Apple says to override the moisture warning, but has a warning that says, “If you charge your iPhone while the Lightning or USB-C connector is wet, the pins on the connector or cable can corrode and cause permanent damage or stop functioning, causing connectivity issues for your iPhone or accessory.” It’s best to use a wireless charger if that’s an option.
Finally, if your phone has dried out but still won’t take a charge, Apple suggests unplugging the phone, unplugging the charger from the wall, and then reconnecting. If everything fails, you’ll need to contact Applecare.
Lady Gaga’s Sexiest Posts On Social Media
Ever since Lady Gaga burst onto the music scene, she has never been one to shy away from taking chances. Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986, in New York City, Gaga has described her high-school self as “very dedicated, very studious, very disciplined” but also “a bit insecure.” She considered herself a misfit and was mocked for “being either too provocative or too eccentric.” The pop star began playing the piano at age four when her mother insisted she become “a cultured young woman.” She took piano lessons and practiced throughout her childhood. The lessons taught her to create music by ear, which Gaga preferred over reading sheet music. Her parents encouraged her to pursue music and enrolled her in Creative Arts Camp.
As a teenager, Lady Gaga played at open mic nights. She also studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for ten years. She later said of her inclination towards music: “I don’t know exactly where my affinity for music comes from, but it is the thing that comes easiest to me. When I was like three years old, I may have been even younger, my mom always tells this really embarrassing story of me propping myself up and playing the keys like this because I was too young and short to get all the way up there.” Admitting she wasn’t a natural dancer, Gaga declared: “But I am a natural musician. That is the thing that I believe I am the greatest at.”
In 2006, Gaga began working with producer Rob Fusari, who she began dating later that year. He helped her develop her songs and claimed to have been the first person to call her “Lady Gaga,” derived from Queen’s song “Radio Ga Ga.”
