New Jersey’s Favorite School Subjects and Their Impact on Our Careers
Attending school in New Jersey, everyone had a favorite subject or two. No matter what it was we had no idea if it would translate into our future careers.
My favorite subjects were biology, English, and history. The only one that sort of pertains to what I do for a living is English, and me really ain’t not real good at writing or talking good. See what I mean?
Impact on Our Careers
The folks at QuillBot.com, looked at 10 subject groups studied across the United States to explore the relationship between Americans’ favorite subjects and how this impacted their future careers.
A survey of 1,933 working professionals revealed that English is the most popular school subject in the United States. They also learned that science was second on the list at 38% followed by history in third at 35%. 31% said that Psychology was their favorite subject in school.
Favorite School Subject in New Jersey
In New Jersey, almost half, or forty-nine percent of people chose English as one of their three favorite subjects. What are the top three careers in New Jersey for those with English as their favorite subject? They’re business management and administration at 7%, Medicine at 7%, and Education and training at 5%.
Here’s an interesting thing they learned from the survey. 7% of Americans work in Education whose favorite subject is English, and 5% work in retail.
Additionally, earlier this year, Next Gen Personal Finance blogger Mason Butts posed an interesting question. He asked, “What percentage of college graduates work in their field of study?” Before learning the answer, I would have guessed that it would be maybe 30%. I thought, for example, “There are many people who have law degrees who don’t practice law.” One could logically think the same for multiple professions. Mason wrote, “Only 46% of college grads surveyed say they currently work in their field of study.”
If this is true then we shouldn’t be surprised that only 7% of Americans work in Education whose favorite subject is English.
