Here’s a Last Minute Halloween Costume That Takes About an Hour to Make
Halloween is just days away and you still don’t have a costume! You want something that’s unique, something that everyone will say “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that before.” You don’t want to just click something boring on Amazon and look like you put zero thought into your Halloween costume.
If you can pull this one off, you’ll have a very happy Halloween, and have an awesome time at that Halloween party amongst the witches, ghosts, and friends wearing t-shirts that say “This is my Halloween costume.”
My favorite costume wasn’t my idea, it was the idea of my youngest son, Liam. A filled grocery cart which we created together and he wore for Halloween when he was 10. It looked so good that I had to get more use out of it. I wore it the following year to the Magic 98.3 Halloween party. Since then it’s been borrowed and used multiple times.
We couldn’t steal a shopping cart (well, we could have, but I would not be setting a very good example). So my wife, Kathleen, found a place online that sold old shopping carts. The warehouse was only about 30 minutes away so Liam and I took the ride to pick the perfect cart. It couldn’t be all metal because that would be too heavy, so we grabbed a plastic one for $25.
We removed everything except the basket and the handle, then cut out the bottom of the basket. Throw in some empty food packages and some printed pictures of food for the inside. Next, you can print some paper wheels for the bottom. Finally, a couple of shoulder straps made out of chain and pool noodles so it could be worn. It was still pretty heavy, but he survived a night of trick-or-treating.
It was not only a great, original costume, but it also made for some priceless father/son time.
Check it out and let me know if you want to borrow it…
