It’s National Pancake Day and New Jersey’s Favorite Pancake Topping is…
Traditional American pancakes with maple syrup are served in a restaurant on October 21, 2022.
Happy National Pancake Day! I’m guessing that you didn’t know that September 26th is National Pancake Day. Perhaps you did know, but do you know that this is the second Pancake Day of the year? There are two Pancake Days every year. The first was on February 21st or Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. There’s religious significance to that one. There’s also a Flapjack Day, but we won’t get into that right now.
Now we’ve learned all that is necessary about Pancake Day. So, let’s talk about pancake toppings. Pancake lovers are known for their creativity when it comes to toppings, and this year was no exception. OnlineCasinos.com set out to answer the big question on everyone’s plate, What’s the nation’s favorite pancake topping?
In New Jersey, it was a split decision. We had a tie between two toppings, butter and chocolate syrup. New York and Pennsylvania chose butter exclusively. You can’t argue that, even with the other toppings you’ve got to start with a pat or two of butter. I think I’m in that camp. While I may enjoy some fruit or maple syrup on occasion, butter is necessary for my pancake enjoyment.
It turns out that the classic choice of butter was the top pick for Americans, winning in 27 states. Following closely in second place were strawberries, the healthier option, chosen by seven states. Rounding out the top three was chocolate chips, endorsed by five states, including New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Arizona.
Yet, for some states, the abundance of pancake topping options made the decision-making process quite challenging. South Carolina witnessed a sweet showdown between chocolate chips, pecans/nuts, and whipped cream. Meanwhile, in Utah, residents found themselves in a tasty tangle, opting for three delectable choices: chocolate chips, peanut butter, and fruit.
In a twist that flipped tradition on its head, states like Kansas, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Wyoming went rogue, choosing unique toppings like peanut butter, chocolate syrup, and bacon.
But it’s not just about the toppings; it’s about the pancake love itself. The survey revealed that Mississippi holds the title for the most pancake-obsessed state, devouring pancakes an average of seven times a month. Utah and West Virginia follow closely, enjoying pancakes five times a month.
So, enjoy those carb cakes today and we’ll talk pancakes again in a few months.
Beyond Pumpkin Spice: 8 Other Fall Flavors That Steal The Show
Fall seems to arrive earlier every year. Coffee shops like Starbucks now introduce their autumn-themed drinks as early as August, and stores swiftly stock their shelves with Halloween decorations.
When we think of fall flavors, pumpkin spice often comes to mind. Many of us are aware that pumpkin spice isn’t actually derived from pumpkins. A pumpkin is a squash that has a distinct taste far from the combination of cinnamon and syrup. Pumpkin spice is just a mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves.
While this spice blend lends its flavor to a wide range of products, including lattes, cereal, pretzels, donuts, gum, and more, it’s worth mentioning that not all people prefer it. In fact, there exists a Reddit thread specifically devoted to discussing the dislike of pumpkin spice-flavored items. A commenter expressed, “I’m in the hate pumpkin spice camp as well. It absolutely takes over the dairy aisle in the stores to the point of not carrying my usual products.” Another Redditor added their thoughts with, “Every season they hardcore promote pumpkin spice everything to kick off fall, and I hate it. It doesn’t even smell that good.”
Besides the popular pumpkin spice latte, there’s a wide variety of seasonal ingredients that contribute to the special taste of autumn, whether you’re preparing your own homemade treats or enjoying comforting dishes. These flavors range from the components in traditional apple pie recipes to the aromatic spices found in typical autumn soups, all representing the essence of the season’s most cherished foods. Who knows, maybe down the road, we’ll be as crazy about apples or cinnamon as we are about pumpkin spice.
If you’re looking to step away from the pumpkin spice trend or simply want to savor a wider range of fall flavors, take a peek at these other flavors that scream “autumn.”
