Dog Swims a Mile Across Hudson from NY to Jersey Reunited with Owner
As we discussed on Joel and Maryann in the Morning, a dog from Manhattan has been reunited with his owners. He’s a six-year-old service dog name Bear. He ran for a mile and a half last Saturday and jumped in the Hudson River before swimming to New Jersey. Firefighters found him under a bridge. Bear was returned to his owner, Ellen Wolpin. Bear is being trained as a service dog for Ellen’s son. The two bought him a new harness so he won’t escape again.
NJ.com reports that Bear, who decided to go for a swim a few days ago was finally returned to his owner. It was reported that “the Leonberger Bernese mix was rescued by the Edgewater Fire Company around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday from beneath the Pier at Independence Harbor.” Three days later “Wolpin got a surprise call from Edgewater police, who tracked down Wolpin thanks to Bear’s microchip.”
