According to Banksneveraskthat.com “Americans lost $5.8 billion to phishing and other fraud in 2021, a 70% increase from 2020.”
We all know of someone who fell for an obvious scam and often hear stories about others who suffer the same fate. We all know that no legitimate company will ask for payment in Target gift cards, much less ask you to make a payment by texting them a picture of the gift cards. This happens all the time. “You won the lottery, now send us money to pay the taxes,” every day people fall for this. Microsoft calls and needs to access your personal computer because you have a virus…really?
Over the weekend it was reported that a woman was scammed out of thirty thousand dollars. She called the police when a person claiming to be an astronaut stuck in space scammed her out of thirty grand. According to Kyodo News, police said that a sixty-five-year-old woman had developed a relationship with the suspect on a social networking site, where they claimed to be working at the International Space Station and needed money to return home to marry her. The money the suspect asked for was to cover expenses for a rocket and “landing fees” on Earth.
There are new scams popping up every day, and no matter how ridiculous they sound people are falling for them. Many of the scams out there involve banks and banking. It makes sense, go where the money is. We all have gotten calls from scammers pretending to be our bank, now there’s a website that will help anyone who isn’t sure what information is safe to share.
Banksneveraskthat.com answers all of the questions you may have, and provides tips on how to notice the “red flags of phishing.” You can play games like “Scam City” to see how adept you are to pick up on scams, and videos to help you avoid being ripped off. They also off tips on how to avoid email scams, phone call scams, text message scams, and mobile payment app scams. They offer ways to “beef up your defenses” and “lock down your accounts.” They share how to report scams, file a police report if you’ve lost money, and of course, tell you what “banks never ask” such as your personal identification number or other account information.
N.J. Star Tops List Of Actors Who Drop The Most F-bombs In Films
With the release of this new list, it’s safe to say that New Jersey gives a lot of you-know-whats.
A New Jersey star has been crowned the king of f-bombs. Joe Pesci is the actor who has dropped the most f-bombs in his films. The New Jersey native topped the list, which was compiled by Crossword-Solver, a website that surveyed online scripts to find out how many times actors say “f—,” “s—” and “hell” in movies.
The survey, which looked at almost 3,000 scripts, found that Pesci said “f—” 272 times in those films, the most of any actor in the scripts. But, the even more interesting fact was that 241 of those f-bombs came from just one film, Casino.
Pesci was born in Newark and grew up in Belleville. He played Nicky Santoro in the 1995 movie, which was directed by Martin Scorsese, and co-starred Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone.
The actor won an Oscar in 1991 for playing Tommy DeVito in Scorsese’s Goodfellas and was nominated again for playing Russell Bufalino in Scorsese’s The Irishman in 2019.
Pesci is set to star on a forthcoming Peacock series Bupkis starring Pete Davidson and Edie Falco. He plays grandfather to Davidson’s character in the show, which is loosely based on the Saturday Night Live alum’s life.
Pesci is not the only New Jersey actor that made the list. Take a look at the full list actors who said the most f-bombs in their films below:
Please note: The survey of movie scripts was limited to those available online to the public, which means it did not include every film an actor has made.
