Somerset Patriots to Host Toy and Food Drive Saturday
The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, will host its annual Toy and Food Drive at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday morning, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event takes place in the team store located behind home plate.
“We love doing this. It’s part of our mission to give back,” VP of Communications and Media Relations Marc Russinoff said. “We have generous fans who support it, and come out in droves. We added the food drive because there is food insecurity in Somerset County. This is the perfect time to give back.
“It’s such a good feeling to see people you haven’t seen in a few months talk about the season and see people give, and help. it’s one of those things you just love to see.”
According to a team-issued press release:
“Fans are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys to be donated to the Central New Jersey Toys for Tots campaign to help bring cheer to children in need this holiday season.
“To help fight food insecurity in our area, the Patriots will also be collecting food donations for the Food Bank Network of Somerset County at the ballpark that day. Bring non-perishable food items to help those in the community.”
Patriots Manager Emeritus Sparky Lyle will greet fans, take pictures, and sign autographs. Autographs are free with a donation of a toy or food item.
Fans will be able to see Sparkee The Mascot, as well as sign up for the Somerset Sluggers Kids Club. Fans who sign up their child for the Kids Club in person at the event will receive an Eastern League teams’ logo baseball as an added bonus.
The Team Store will feature holiday shopping opportunities to purchase team apparel, noveltie,s and more with savings of up to 75% on select items.
A full interview with Marc Russinoff will air on Fox Sports New Jersey at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
