Marine Corps Veteran Talks About Transitioning New Jersey’s Military [Interview]
Another Veterans day is upon us, and each year, approximately 250,000 active-duty military personnel transition out of the service and into civilian life. This transition can include everything from finding a new job and reevaluating their financial plan, to moving to a new city.
Joel and Maryann had the opportunity to speak with Marine Corps Veteran and Financial Expert Clay Stackhouse about the Navy Federal Credit Union‘s partnership with The Mission Continues.
The Mission Continues is a national veteran’s organization dedicated to empowering veterans as community-based leaders. They invest in veterans and under-resourced communities, developing new skill sets and equipping a growing veteran volunteer movement with the tools to drive positive change. The mission deploys veteran volunteers in more than 40 cities nationwide alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, address food insecurity, increase access to parks and green spaces, foster neighborhood identity, and more. Through this unique model, veterans are provided opportunities for personal connection and professional growth while generating visible community impact. Their work is made possible through the generous contributions of their mission partners. To learn more, visit missioncontinues.org.
Colonel Stackhouse shared that each year they’ve been doing “Best Cities After Service Lists.” He said, “We interviewed over a thousand veterans and their families…we considered 400 cities.” They then determined what cities were best overall, best for children, the best for retired veterans, and the best to buy a home. For the entire list go to navyfederal.org/bestcities.
