Robbie’s World New Jersey Author Teaches Autism Acceptance
Today is World Autism Awareness Day and April is Autism Awareness Month. World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day every year on April 2nd. It encourages everyone to do things that raise awareness about autistic individuals throughout the world.
Many of us know a family who has a child with autism, I do, and you probably do too. It’s very difficult for families, and not many people truly understand the demanding and strenuous day-to-day life they live.
New Jersey’s High Rate of Autism
According to World Population Review, New Jersey is top 10 among states with the most kids diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum. “The reason that autism is also called autism spectrum disorder is that the disability occurs on a spectrum, with the range and severity of symptoms varying widely.” Some things that those with autism may do include avoiding contact, having trouble adapting to a new routine, or having trouble expressing their needs.
What is Robbie’s World Foundation?
Robbie’s World Foundation was established by the Gelormini family in New Providence, New Jersey. It was formed to honor their son Robbie who had Profound, Non-Verbal Autism. Robbie passed away in his sleep in 2017 from a seizure.
Now the Gelormini family is dedicated to helping others affected by Autism. Robbie’s World Foundation does whatever it can do to assist other Autism families who need assistance.
They plan events such as “Lemonade Mom’s Retreats” for families, encourage businesses to participate in their fundraising ideas, and speak at schools nationwide. They also spread Autism awareness through their podcast, “Spectrum Perspectives,” and the children’s book series, “Robbie’s World and His Spectrum of Adventures.”
