Big Game Snack Survey is Unbelievably Ridiculous and Stupid
NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 08: Snack food is displayed inside a grocery store February 8, 2006 in New York City. A new U.S. government study on nutrition has found that, contrary to popular opinion, a low fat diet does not appear to reduce the risk of cancer or heart disease. The $415 million study involved nearly 49,000 women aged between 50 and 79 who were followed for a period of eight years. In the end, those on a low-fat diet had the same rates of breast cancer, colon cancer, heart attacks and strokes as those who ate whatever they liked. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
This is ridiculous! You have a favorite team, you have a party during a big game, and you think that it would be worse for you to run out of snacks than for your team to lose. Do you know what this means? It means you don’t like your favorite team very much. A new survey says that if you’re having a Super Bowl party this weekend, you better make sure your snacks are well stocked. It claims almost half of Americans think running out of food is worse than their favorite team losing the big game. Let me rephrase that because it sounds so unbelievable. They would rather their team lose than have all of the potato chips eaten before the party ends. I would have zero snacks if it meant my team would win. I wouldn’t eat for a month if it guaranteed a win for my favorite team. And most everybody else who calls themselves a true fan would do the same.
The survey of 2,000 Americans was commissioned by Frito-Lay, so we should consider the source.
Here are some other fun facts the survey revealed. 59% of respondents say they managed to break the ice with people by bonding over snack preferences. 27% say the goodies have helped ease an otherwise awkward meeting with a partner’s friends or family, and 18% have even met total strangers by talking about their shared snacking preferences in the checkout line.

Nearly 80% of Gen Zers and 72% of millennials say they’ve turned a shared love of a particular item into a personal connection. That’s very nice, but to have your team lose so you “make a personal connection” or “have an awkward meeting with your partner’s friend?”
The poll also looked into what type of stuff we like to eat while we’re watching the big game, and 71% say they’re into trying something new this year. I assume we’re still talking about snacks.
But whatever you serve, get the party started early. While kickoff isn’t until 6:30, nearly a quarter of those polled say a Super Bowl party should start at lunch or earlier. Finally, something I agree with!
25 Best Sports Anthems, Ranked
Sports Anthems: It’s amazing how they can move thousands and thousands of people all at once. Without a doubt, at least some of these songs on this list will be played at some point during MLB’s Opening Day.
Most sporting events without music nowadays just fall flat. An appropriate soundtrack is practically essential. Now, different sporting events often have different vibes. This can vary by the sport itself, the level of said sport or the region in which the sport is being played.
With this in mind, this list was crafted to have some surprises, yet also be overall universal. It’s trying to walk a very particular line of mass appeal and unexpectedness. Truth be told, this list of the best sports anthems walks that line rather brilliantly.

How This Best Sports Anthems List Was Determined
This author has been to her share of sporting events over the years. Regardless of the sport, there are just certain songs that are ubiquitous at sporting events. Whether it’s high school, minor leagues or the pros, these 25 songs deliver on at least one over more of these levels:
-Does the song help hype up a crowd?
-Does the song add a new, appropriate level of emotion to a sporting event?
-Does the song have a unique tie to a team/athlete, but can also transcend it?
-Does it have a universally recognizable hook?
-Has it been used in a sports movie, thus, increasing its reach to the general public?
Look, this list is far from scientific, but it sure is a lot of fun, which is the whole point of any list like this. Frankly, it was a lot of fun to put together. It’s even more fun to revisit when major sports events appear on the calendar, from Opening Day to the Super Bowl and everywhere in between.
From rock to hip hop to EDM to pop, here are the 25 best sports anthems, ranked.
