U.S. Safety Agency Looking to Ban Gas Stoves in New Jersey
After reading this you will most likely think one of the following…
Can this really happen? Are they serious? Wait…what? Can they do that? How can this even be possible? This is insane! Here’s why.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission is seriously considering a ban on natural gas stoves throughout the country and yes, that includes New Jersey. If you have natural gas, you can imagine the cost of converting to an alternative source, plus the cost of having to purchase an entirely new stove and oven.
According to Time, one of the agency’s Commissioners, Richard Trumka, Jr. says that this is a “hazard” and “pollution, which can cause health and respiratory problems.” His agency is seriously looking into the possibility of significant pollution that is caused by gas stoves and says that there are several options that vary from mere regulations to a complete and total federal ban. He made it very clear that “products that can’t be made safe can be banned.”
According to the World Health Organization, The Institute for Policy Integrity, The American Chemical Society, Consumer Reports, and others, there are many possible dangers or byproducts from the use of natural gas. They include asthma, cancer, carbon dioxide, cardiovascular problems, fine particulate matter, nitrogen oxide, and respiratory illness.
4 in 10 homes in America have a natural gas stove.
