Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys Are Recruiting Poll Workers
Singers, actors and comedians are banding together to help keep polling places running smoothly amid a nationwide shortage of poll workers.
Power the Polls is an organization aiming to enlist a new generation of poll workers ahead of the midterm elections coming up on November 8, 2022. Per Yahoo!, they have already recruited 50,000 potential new election workers since it relaunched its campaign in May, thanks in part to its influential partners.
The goal of Power the Polls is to enlist younger, more diverse and unbiased poll workers who can continue powering elections for years to come. People who speak multiple languages or possess technical skills are especially in demand, though those qualifications are not required to get involved.
Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys called on their fans to take part in the movement and register as poll workers. Other participants included former President Barack Obama, comedian Trevor Noah and actress Kerry Washington.
