4 Red Lobster Restaurants Closing in New Jersey
It came to life in 1968 in Florida, but Red Lobster is now on the list of endangered species. Not an actual lobster, but the restaurant chain that we’ve seen, heard, and visited our entire lives.
Every occasion that’s appropriate for a Red Lobster gift card, that’s what my dad gets as a present. My parents, especially my father, love Red Lobster. For his birthday, Father’s Day, Christmas, you name it, that’s what’s in the card from me and the family. He’s the easiest to buy for.
Unfortunately, the days of no-stress cheddar bay biscuit gift-giving to Pops may be coming to an end. The seafood chain with its Shrimp Fest celebrations is closing up shop at ninety-nine or more locations in the United States including a few in New Jersey.
That’s more than fifteen percent of all the crustacean cooking folks’ locations as they are doing their best to prevent a full-on bankruptcy filing. This may have something to do with their Endless Shrimp deal. They miscalculated how well it would do, and it cost them. They put it on the menu rather than their normal limited-time promotion. It increased customers, but they lost millions of dollars.
Red Lobster Closings in Central Jersey
According to USA Today, four Red Lobster restaurants are closing in New Jersey. That’s less than half of the amount shutting down in New York, but only one in Pennsylvania.
The New Jersey locations include Route 22 in Bridgewater, route 18 in East Brunswick, Brunswick Pike in Lawrenceville, and Route 10 in Ledgewood. Their website shows their hours of operation, dine-in and to-go read like this:
Monday Closed
Tuesday Closed
Wednesday Closed
Thursday Closed
Friday Closed
Saturday Closed
Sunday Closed
In 2014 they agreed to a sale leaseback agreement. This means they sold the lot that the restaurants are on and took on high lease payments for the property.
They’ve been trying to sell for a long time, I wish I had the money because I would buy the franchise for my parents for their anniversary.
You can still enjoy Red Lobster at other locations in New Jersey including Paramus, Cherry Hill, South Plainfield, Toms River, and Secaucus.
