Vote: Scotch Plains Custodian Top 10 Finalist for ‘Custodian of the Year’
We all have a favorite school staff member or several favorites regarding our school memories. These are the teachers, or support staff that we remember fondly as we look back and reflect on memories of our school years. You may have seen my post about my favorite teachers who profoundly impacted my life and many of my classmates.
Cintas Custodian of the Year Finalist
Custodian of the year finalist Salvator Gano is one of those people that the students and staff at Evergreen School in Scotch Plains have been and will recall when they think of their fond school day memories.
They call him “Mr. Sal” and he was voted into the top 10 in the 2024 Cintas Custodian of the Year contest. Mr. Sal accomplished this feat even though he was competing with thousands of other nominees. He was nominated by his Evergreen school admirers and Scotch Plains and Fanwood residents. Mr. Sal has been a well-respected productive member of the community for over three decades.
Even though we can all agree that he’s already a winner, he can become the official custodian of the year if he gets the votes. Last month he was honored by the Scotch Plains Township Council witnessed by a large crowd of family, friends, students, and coworkers.

Prizes for Custodian of the Year
Mr. Sal is now eligible for a long list of prizes should he advance further in the contest. The top 3 finalists will receive a trip to Las Vegas for the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) trade show. If he makes it to the top 9, he’ll get a $1000 award.
If the well-loved Salvator Gano is the winner he and the school get much more. Mr. Sal would receive $10,000 from Cintas, and the Evergreen School would get $5000 in products and services from Cintas and Rubbermaid.
