New Jersey’s “SOUPerBowl” Winner as Top Soup in Our State
It’s the ultimate comfort food, and if it’s not it’s right up there as a companion to your favorite comfort soup. Chicken noodle, broccoli cheddar, French onion, tomato, or whatever soup is your go-to, nothing warms the soul like a delicious bowl of soup. Shane Co. conducted a study to find out what is the most popular soup in the United States of America. One soup ruled over all others as the most enjoyed in most states, however, New Jersey did not agree with the rest of the country. It wasn’t just New Jersey, it was most of our neighbors in the northeast region of the country.
To find out which type of soup was the tastiest, comfiest, and favorite for each state to warm up to, a list was created of favorite soups across the country and looked at 23 soup-type keywords on Google Trends for five years from 2017 through 2022.
You probably guessed that chicken noodle soup tops the soup charts in America, it’s the most searched soup in 44 percent of all states. Chicken noodle is the dominant winner of the soup competition, and it should be. It’s what we think of when we have a cold or just feel cold and need something to eat to feel better and warm us up. Even if it’s not chicken noodle it’s usually a soup that includes chicken in some way.
New Jersey, however, goes against the grain with our favorite and the study discovered that the popular legume lentil is the chosen soup of the garden state. Lentil soup is the winner of the Jersey big game of soup.
Pennsylvania prefers wedding soup or Italian wedding soup; then minestrone, lentil, and French onion soups are the three favorites in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.
