The headline is a little bit of an untruth because we don’t choose our favorite movies, they choose us. You can’t decide to like something, it just happens. With that in mind, I narrowed down my favorite Christmas movie list to three faves even though I’m sure that I could come up with many more.

I based each chosen movie on three different types of criteria so the results would provide somewhat of a variety of choices. I decided to choose my overall favorite, one that is entertaining and fun with some romance, and one that some people may not be familiar with or have seen, but I would recommend giving it a try because I enjoy it.

Let’s run down a quick list of movies that didn’t make the list, not because I don’t think they are good movies, but because they didn’t fit into the principles I established.

Home Alone, The Grinch, It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street…These are all good movies and I could list many, many more, however, here are the top three…

  • "Elf"

41% of people have a “go-to” holiday movie. Mine is “Elf.”

It is without a doubt my very favorite Christmas movie. I’ve already watched it multiple times this year. I’m sure you’ve seen it where Will Ferrell plays Buddy the elf. If you haven’t, “son of a nutcracker,” you need to watch it right now or you’re a “cotton-headed-ninny-muggins.” If you have seen it, what’s your favorite quote?” Here are a few more of the many memorable ones…

“You sit on a throne of lies!”

“That’s a nice purple dress, very purpley.”

“I just like to smile, smiling’s my favorite.”

And my favorite, “Francisco! That’s fun to say!”

  • "Love Actually"

I love everything about this movie! It’s nine separate fun and funny love stories wrapped into one fantastic holiday movie. And check out this cast, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, and more. If you haven’t seen this movie, watch it right now!!!

  • "The Family Man"

Tea Leoni’s character is so adorable and they live in JERSEY! Don Cheadle and Nicholas Cage too! Plus a soundtrack with U2, Talking Heads, and Elvis Costello

Whatever you favorites are, I hope you have a safe and happy holiday season!
