New Jersey’s Most Popular Halloween Icon
It may not be my absolute favorite holiday, but I do love Halloween. We get to dress up and be whoever or whatever we want to be. We also get to dress up our kids, our pets, and whoever or whatever will allow us to transform them into something else.
Scary things are popular, but what scary icon or thing is most popular? CCW Safe did some research to find out what it is. They analyzed Google Trends search data over the last twelve months to find the most popular Halloween icon in every state in the country.
Most Popular Halloween Icon in New Jersey
For example, New Jersey seems to have a favorite. Those of us in the Garden State appear to be most attracted to Frankenstein. We’ve searched for him more than any other monster, ghoul, or goblin.
Frankenstein first came on the scene in the early eighteen hundreds in the novel written by Mary Shelley.
However, Franky is not the most popular Halloween icon according to the study. He was down toward the bottom of the list with only three states searching for him the most. The other are the District of Columbia and New Hampshire.
Most Popular Halloween Icon in America
The icon that was the most popular for Halloween was a demon. According to their research, a demon was searched more than any other in seven states including Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
New York’s most popular Halloween Icon was found to be a clown. Clowns were searched in the Empire State plus Illinois and New Mexico. Clowns were listed sixth in the rankings.
In second place for the most popular Halloween icon was the Cyclops. States wanting to learn more about the one-eyed monster are Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, and Nebraska.
Interestingly, “bogeyman” (not “boogeyman”) landed in the third spot. This lead me to find out the difference between the two spellings. Apparently, it began in English folklore and was spelled “Bogeyman,” but in North America it’s “boogeyman.” I’ve always spelled it “boogieman,” which is also the KC and the Sunshine Band spelling.
Other Halloween icons that made the list included alien, witch, vampire, ghost and more.
