Survey Determines New Jersey’s 7 Favorite Living Room Styles
Maybe you’ve read the blog, “New Jersey’s Most In-Demand Towns to Live.” Most families have a town in Jersey where they would love to own their dream home to show off their preferred living room style.
While our family is currently happy with our home’s location, we do have some dream towns that we’d live in if we could. After we determine which town we would like our dream home to be, we would need to sell our current house.
Real Estate Secret
Some think that putting brownies or an apple pie in the oven before showing your home is the number one trade secret for selling your home quickly.
However, in today’s housing market, researchers at the furniture company joybird.com set out to learn what buyers are looking for when they walk through their potential dream home. They particularly paid close attention to the living room preferences.
More than 2,600 Americans were surveyed across 44 states to determine how residents of each state would build their dream living rooms. After examining all of the data, they determined that seven elements might appeal most to New Jersey buyers as they stroll through an open house.
Jersey’s 7 Most Appealing Living Room Styles
For us, these are so spot-on. These seven styles match everything in our home. We’re seven for seven when it comes to agreeing with the majority of other New Jersey homeowners in the survey.
The first is design style. They found that the majority of Americans wanted a country house-style living room, while New Jersey residents prefer minimalism. Minimalism means “no clutter, clean lines, neutral colors, and natural materials.”
Jersey folks prefer a sectional over any other sofa style. It gives us much more comfortable seating over an accent chair and allows you to stretch out when you want.
Most in Jersey prefer that sectional to be leather. It’s durable, easy to clean, and lasts longer than many other fabric options.
Light brown hardwood floors are also Jersey’s living room style preference. Our dining room and hallway hardwood is light brown and we considered changing it. We thought it might be out of style. I think it was in style when we got it, and now it’s back as a living room style we like.
Brushed nickel hardware is what’s chosen in Jersey. It looks nice on cabinet doors, door knobs, and plumbing fixtures.
The wall paint colors used most are white and off-white shades. Guilty again. We used to have the “color of the moment,” but then realized that the color should come from the accent pieces. You can be a little bold with the furniture, curtains, artwork, lamps, and decorative pieces.
Finally, the accent chair style we go for in Jersey most is the lounge chair. It may take up a bit more space than a simple arm, side, wing-back, or ladder-back chair, but it’s certainly the most comfortable.
How the home you’re selling is styled makes a difference. It probably wouldn’t be wise financially to change the décor of your house to sell it. However, if you have the preferred style of most house shoppers in the Garden State it will garner you more interest, and possibly more bids.
