Tour De Franklin Returns to Central Jersey for 35th Year
As you may know, we have partnered with the Franklin Food Bank and they drop by our studios on the first Monday of every month. The reason for the Franklin Food Bank visit each month is to make our community aware that help is available for anyone who is facing food insecurity. We also want to share the many wonderful programs and events from the Franklin Food Bank.
Just Announced
The Franklin Food Bank has recently announced that the 35th Annual Tour de Franklin Charity Bike Ride will be happening again. This year it’s planned for Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at Franklin High School in Somerset, New Jersey.
The Tour de Franklin is the Franklin Food Bank’s largest annual fundraising event. It’s an annual spring tradition in Franklin Township.
Major Milestone
It began in 1989 and this year is the 35th anniversary of the Tour. About 800 cyclists will be racing through Central Jersey to help fight local hunger. The Tour consists of seven events. There are 62, 40, 25, 10, and 5-mile rides through Franklin Township. You can also participate in a 10-mile ride and 1-5 mile walk-or-ride. This takes place along the scenic Delaware and Raritan (D & R) Canal. The rides will take place periodically throughout the morning plus they’ll be serving breakfast, lunch, and other snacks.
Where the Money Goes
All proceeds raised by the Tour de Franklin directly support Food Bank operations. As I mentioned, this is their largest fundraiser each year and the funding is a critical part of their annual budget.
Last year, the Food Bank distributed close to three million pounds of food. They also experienced about thirty thousand visits to their Client Choice Market and Drive-Through events. 2023’s Tour de Franklin raised over one hundred twenty thousand dollars which was used exclusively to fight hunger in the Franklin Township community.
