Jersey love villains, from Tony Soprano to the Jersey Devil; there’s even an amateur baseball team in Jersey called the “New Jersey Villains.” So it’s no surprise that many of us will be dressing up as villains for Halloween. Whether your costume is naughty or nice this year, it can be tough to think of the perfect getup. If you’re in New Jersey and leaning toward the dark side, here’s some inspiration in the form of the most dastardly movie icons.
The team at Shane Co. used Google Trends to analyze the search volume of both live-action and animated movie villains over the past five years to determine the most popular movie villains in every state. Here’s a sample of their findings.
First, let’s talk about our state, New Jersey’s most popular live-action villain is Vito Corleone from The Godfather! Maybe that’s not a good costume for you so how about Toy Story 4‘s Lotso, the strawberry scented bear happens to be the most searched Disney villain! The Dark Knight‘s Joker is the number one live action villain, most searched in nine states, followed by Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs, and Bane from The Dark Knight Rises.
The top searched animated villain is Scar from Lion King, most popular in 7 states, followed by the Queen of Hearts (6 states) and Ursula (4 states).
Comic-book villains ranked the highest: DC movie villains won in 13 states, while Marvel movie villains (the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Thanos) won in five states. Star Wars villains Kylo Ren and Darth Vader were the most popular in two states.
