Matt Damon admitted he only just recently stopped using an offensive, homophobic slur because his daughter told him it was taboo.
The Stillwater star was talking about “changes in modern masculinity” with The Sunday Times yesterday (August 1), when he explained he retired the “F-slur for a homosexual” because it’s no longer used the same way as when he “was a kid.”
“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!’” 50-year-old Damon recalled.
“She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the F-slur!’ I understood.”
It’s unclear which of Damon’s three daughters wrote the letter. He shares daughters, Isabella, 15, Gia, 12, and Stella, 10, with wife Luciana Barroso. He is also the stepfather to Barroso’s 22-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.
The Ford v Ferrari star received backlash on social media for his comments, with many questioning why he’d even share the story at all.

“If Matt Damon’s using homophobic slurs at the dinner table in 2021, you can’t tell me he’s not using racist slurs too,” accused a Twitter user.

A hilarious tweet captured what we all must think of the sudden realization Damon had:

The national news media:
Matt Damon: Y’know I said f*gg*t until like last Tuesday?
One user pointed out how Matt Damon only realized months ago that the terminology is unacceptable:
So Matt Damon just figured out "months ago", by way of a "treatise" from a child, that he's not supposed to say the word f*ggot.— Travon Free (@Travon) August 1, 2021

Others were baffled that his daughter had to lay it out for her parent right from wrong.
