This time, the film will explore the relationship between Maleficent and Princess Aurora as the princess prepares to be next in line for the throne.
The princess' impending wedding doesn't help, as it introduces a new rival for Maleficent, played by Michelle Pfeiffer.
Other stars in the cast include Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein and returning stars like Elle Fanning and Jolie.
The original film grossed $750M worldwide, Variety reports.
The sequel will hit theaters on October 18, months before its intended release date of May 29, 2020, People Magazine reports.
