Don’t let me get me these amazing P!nk must-haves. The artist, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore Hart, goes on her Pink Summer Carnival tour this year. In 1995, the singer got her start as a member of Choice at just 16 years old. The Pennsylvania native was then offered a solo career after the group disbanded three years later.
Pink signed a recording contract with LaFace Records and began working on her debut solo album, Can’t Take Me Home, with producers such as Babyface, Kandi Burruss and Tricky Stewart. Her debut single, “There You Go”, was released in February 2000 and became her first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The following year P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Mýa and Lil’ Kim, performed a cover of “Lady Marmalade” for the soundtrack of the film Moulin Rouge!. Tired of being marketed as another cookie-cutter pop act and wanting to be seen as a songwriter, P!nk took her sound in a new direction with her second album, Missundaztood. This album featured global hits like “Get the Party Started,” “Just Like A Pill,” “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” and “Family Portrait.”
Madonna and Janis Joplin are P!nk’s biggest musical influences. She said that during her childhood, she used to think that she was Madonna’s daughter. She admitted to not speaking to her own mother for a year because she was sure she adopted her. Though not as extreme with Janis Joplin, Pink was inspired by Joplin wearing her heart on her sleeve when it wasn’t culturally acceptable for white women to sing the blues.
The boundary-breaking artist’s latest album, Trustfall, is her ninth studio project. It was released this past February, featuring the lead single, “Never Gonna Not Dance Again.” The 13-song album has received an overwhelmingly positive review.
