In the final stretch of the NFL 2022 season, you wouldn’t think there would be any major changes, but oh boy were there. During the Christmas game of the Broncos vs Rams, Russell Wilson the QB for Denver had it rough on and off the field as Nickelodeon was once again hosting the game with a VR version of Patrick Star from SpongeBob giving play-by-play commentary.

During a certain interception by Wilson, Patrick can be heard saying “I don’t think that’s what he wanted to cook.” This lead the character to trend over on Twitter as the once-star QB Wilson was mocked over his performance. This game was followed up by the dismissal of head coach Nathanael Hackett who had some choice words about his termination.

So what were the fan’s reactions to Russell being made fun of by a cartoon character? Well here are some of the best reactions we found.

  • Hero to Zero?

I thought you were supposed to go from a zero to a hero, at least that’s how Hercules did it, but they have a point. Once upon a time, Russell Wilson was a top-tier QB who carried his team winning the 2014 title when he played for the Seahawks, but ever since coming to Denver he hasn’t been the same.

  • Do You Still Have The Receipt?

You’ll see this mentioned a few times, but if I was Denver and made this kind of trade for this kind of performance I’d be upset too. I mean everyone has bad games, but I think you should expect more when you give so much not only money, but top picks in the draft, and your QB that you traded for is getting roasted by a cartoon character.

  • Seeing The Actual Trade Makes It Worse.

Exactly! This is Russell Wilson’s worst NFL period as of right now he only has 12 touchdowns on record with a fourth of them coming from their game against the Chiefs this month. Some people blame part of the bad performance on now ex-head coast Hackett, but take your receipt and go get your money back.

  • Thank You Patrick.

To give Russell a break, whoever decided to let Patrick commentate this year I want to personally shake your hand because it was wildly entertaining to see the simple, yet hilariously dumb things Patrick voiced by Bill Fagerbakke, would say.

  • All I Have To Say Is...Yikes.

Now to give context, I am not a sports expert like some of my fellow coworkers, but what I like about this is. You don’t have to be a major sports fan to understand that when a player is being roasted by a VR cartoon character. It’s probably not a good thing. Funny? Heck yeah, good for the player? Not at all.

  • That's Good Football Right There.

I say they should let Patrick color commentate on every NFL game from now on. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if that idea was shot down before I had time to even finish it. I do think it would get annoying after a while so maybe we’ll go back to the drawing board on that one.

  • Faith In Humanity Restored.

I am a firm believer that having fun is one of the best ways to stay healthy, so while some people may be upset that Russell Wilson was being mocked so brutally, it’s all in good fun and he obviously has done a lot for his team and shouldn’t be discredited. It’s still funny though.

  • Cheap Shot.

Some might have missed this side comment but as Patrick delivered the line “I don’t think that’s what he wanted to cook.” Another commentator mentioned that whatever he was cooking is clearly burnt. I mean ouch, I felt the sting on that one.

  • Oh No....

Yeahhhh, neverminded this one is a cheap shot. Absolutely below the belt, he might be having a terrible season, but still ouch.

  • Yeah... I Remember A Time When They Were The GOAT.

From the goat to being beaten by the rams. Denver is not having a good year at all which is part of the reason for Hackett’s dismissal as he started the team 4-11. There’s not much lower you can get from that, but I guess he at least won four games.
