National Pizza Day: Watch Dave Portnoy Rate New Jersey Pizzeria’s

To say Jersians love their pizza is an understatement. Just ask anyone who follows Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy’s pizza ratings. Of the over 2,000 pizzeria’s in New Jersey, he’s sampled dozens upon dozens of Jersey Pizza joints giving his stamp of approval. After “one bite” he scores a slice between the ranges of one through ten, with 10 being the best.

That said, his ultimate favorite pizza in Jersey was De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pies in Robbinsville. He scored their pizza a 9.1.

• ..and Federici’s in Freehold came in a close second.

• Portnoy’s least favorite Jersey pie was served to him at Costco in Clifton..

• Since there are so many establishments to get good pizza in New Jersey, it calls for a sanctioned Pizza competition.

  Guy Madsen , who runs the Jersey Pizza Joints public group Facebook agrees and did just that. According to northjersey.com!

   

• His second annual Pizza Bowl contest just took place last Saturday February 5, 2022.  Like the first annual, this year’s event took place at Redd's Biergarten in Carlstadt

  His Facebook membership of 55,000 are first asked to pick their favorite pizza place.  That list then gets narrowed down from 200, to 32, to 18, then eight and eventually to the final four before the final vote to reveal the champ.  The state is divided into regions; North, Central, South, Shore each representing their hometown establishments.

  A panel of local celebrity judges on Saturday picked Maruca’s of Seaside Heights and Asbury Park as the King of Pizza at Pizza Bowl II, beating out 800 other competitors.  Congratulations!
